For families looking to create positive birth experiences...

Discover the Empowering Support of a Doula:
Your Birth, Your Way

Dear Expectant Parents,

Congratulations on your journey to parenthood! As you prepare for one of life's most transformative experiences, it's essential to have the right support by your side. As an experienced doula and birth mentor, my mission is to empower you and your partner to create the birth experience YOU envision.

Working with a doula means having customized emotional, physical, and informational support through your pregnancy, birth and early postpartum period.

And I Want YOU To Have the Support You Need!

The Opportunity of a Lifetime...

“Giving birth is one of the most vulnerable, transformative experiences of your life—and having the right support makes all the difference.”

Why You May Want To Work With Me

Decades of Experience as a Doula

I started my journey of childbirth education back in 2002 and started attending births as a doula in 2003. While most of my past clients have had midwives, and most have planned home births, I do also attend births in hospital and at the birth centre and also support OB and physician attended births. Through the decades, I have worked with a variety of families and offer you the culmination of everything I have learned to help you create a positive birth.

Health Care Background

Having trained and practiced as a chiropractor for over 20 years, I have an intimate understanding of anatomy and physiology. I am well-versed in informed health care decision making and am confident communicating with health care professionals. You get to draw on my experience as a resource as you make the decisions that are right for you.

Experienced Teacher

With a background as a certified childbirth educator, guest lecturer at Carleton University, homeschooling parent, and college-level instructor in anatomy and physiology, I have honed my ability to present complex information in an accessible manner. This expertise equips me to effectively provide you with the essential knowledge needed to pursue a physiological birth.

Hands on Care

My experience with hands on health care means knowing the body and what touch is soothing and helpful. Understanding anatomy means that I know the places to support your body for maximum comfort. You will benefit from confident, caring, and intentional touch when I support you in labour.

Continual Training

I have trained as a childbirth educator through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professional Association, as a doula, childbirth educator and mentor through Birthing from Within, on perinatal mental health through uOttawa, and have trained in the perinatal use of the Mexican Rebozo with Collective Rebozo. I have also been a member of Tony Robbin's Inner Circle and continue to attended many trainings on perinatal care and personal power and development.

Personal Experience

I have walked in your shoes and have birthed three babies naturally at home. I know what it means to move through each stage of labour, to pass through doubt, to work through intensity, and what it takes to keep going. I can recognize where you are inside as you go on your journey and I can help you navigate each stage with ease.

Birth Advocate

Being involved in the world of birth advocacy for decades, having met with heads of hospitals, and maternity departments, participated in hospital grand rounds, helped organize international birth conferences and birth film festivals, I understand what is happening behind the scenes. Whether you have a breech baby, are planning a VBAC, are expecting twins, or just want to make sure your autonomy and choices are respected, I can help you navigate the health care system.

Connect Monthly

Once a month I host a Your Birth Circle gathering. This is a judgement free space where you can ask your questions, share your experiences and knowledge, gain positive support from others, and build community.  You and I get to know each other better, will have a deeper connection, and I will have more insight into what you want and don't want for your birth.

Trust in the Body

My core philosophy on health centres around trusting the body to express its fullest health potential, as long as we give it what it needs and nothing is interfering with it.  The same applies to birth. Your body has the potential to express a normal, physiological birth. Supporting your normal neurophysiology means creating the space for your birth to unfold unhindered.

I Believe in You

Having walked this journey myself and walked alongside countless other women, I know you have the capacity to make it through. I will believe in you, even when you doubt yourself. You can draw on my knowing that YOU can do this, even when you question if you can.

My Mission

To walk beside parents as they welcome new life—guiding them to rise in love, lead with intention, and root their families in deep connection from the very beginning.

What is an Empowered Birth?

"An empowered birth is one where you are in control, making informed decisions for yourself and your baby. It's an experience surrounded by love, support, and respect, honoring the incredible power within your body to bring your baby into the world. In this nurturing environment, you are free to express whatever you need—be it sound, movement, fear, love, doubt, or ecstasy—without fear of outside interference. I believe that you can create an empowering birth experience, regardless if the outcome is a natural, medicated, or surgical birth. When your decisions stem from education, faith, belief, and confidence in yourself, rather than fear or manipulation, you truly experience your power and strength. I have faith in the human body, its innate intelligence, and the transformative power of birth to shape you as a person, woman, partner, and mother."

It's been 2 years already since I gave birth to my beautiful son Logan. I prepared myself so well for my home birth but when the time arrived, It is as if everything I learned just vanished in the ether. My birth was extremely intense, and I would say traumatic. Nancy was my rock, my peace and my absolute ally during this whole process. I pushed actively for 6 hours open at 10. I didn't know it was even possible to do that but, she reminded me of my power, my strength and my ability as a woman to push this baby out. She calmed me down and made sure all the decision the midwives wanted to push on me was accepted by me. The midwives were freaking out, but Nancy was peaceful, confident and she helped me tremendously to ride the wave of pain and intensity I was going through. I unfortunately ended up in the hospital with a c-section for positioning reasons and no more energy to keep going. She supported me until the end, she kept reminding me that I was not broken, that I am a powerful birthing mama. Her words are still in my mind through this day and it helped me heal a lot from this trauma. She spent a couple hours at my home after the birth and we talked for a while. Once again, she insisted on the fact that I was built for birthing a baby, and she helped gain some confidence about it. She is truly caring, understanding and loving. I love this human being a lot, she is the best doula you can ever ask for. I recommend her at 10000000%, she will be your guardian angel in any type of situation. She also has knowledge that is absolutely incredible and she is passionate about her role as a doula. I will never thank you enough Nancy for everything you've done for me and my family.

Omg... Nancy was a true blessing during my childbirth experience! I don't know what I would do without her! I had an unmedicated home birth, and her presence was so empowering, calming, and helpful. She was massaging my hips, using pressure points, while my hips were opening and helping me switch positions to manage pain and to progress better. At some point, we even sang together, which helped me vocalize my pain and be more present in the experience. Her presence during my labor experience was a true blessing! I recommend her to every single birthing mother; having Nancy during the birthing experience is the most significant gift any mother can give to herself! Additionally, her support before and after birth was priceless and invaluable. I'm looking forward to my next birthing experience with Nancy again. She is simply THE BEST!!!

I had a traumatizing experience with my first labour and from that moment I knew if I ever fell pregnant again, I would seek a doula. This time, I happened upon Nancy as she came HIGHLY recommended by multiple families. Everyone who recommended her did so for good reason because I truly believe she was a huge part in helping me facilitate my dream, redemptive, birth with my second and for that I’ll forever be grateful. Both my husband and I are still in awe at my/our experience and I swear the difference was in hiring someone with so much experience and practical birth knowledge to support me during my labour. Without her, I probably would have given up many times. Instead, because of her knowledge, hands on support and experience, I had my dream home birth that was both undisturbed and unmedicated and my body did what it was supposed to do in a very short amount of time (6hrs). I felt safe, I felt supported, comforted, capable and any time I felt i couldn’t continue, she reminded me to focus on just that one moment and reminded me to breathe as she supported my body with physical touch/pain relief. Hiring someone who does this so passionately, with so much experience and knowledge, makes literally all the difference. Our family is complete but if it wasn’t, I would hire her over and over again without any doubts. We are eternally grateful to Nancy and I still can’t believe how amazing my labour and postpartum experience has been because of Nancy. Again, thank you so much Nancy. I don’t have the words to describe how much your support means to all of us. 🥲

I knew from the moment I met Nancy that she needed to be my doula. She instantly felt like family. She simultaneously radiates comfort, strength and peace and that is exactly what she provided for me during my labor. She provided a well to draw strength from when things got intense. She graciously kept me on the path that I wanted to be on. She stayed up all night with me and my husband through the next afternoon. Her knowledge in the birthing space is so valuable. Before I went into actual labor, I had 6 days of prodromal labor and Nancy was always happy to get on a call with me to help me power through. We laughed and cried together. She helped create a space where I could be the most vulnerable I have ever been. She provided knowledge and wisdom and advocated for me when I wasn’t able to. I told her after all that she provided for me and my family, a verbal thank you wasn’t nearly enough, my SOUL thanked her for being such a powerful presence in my birthing experience. If you couldn’t tell, I can’t recommend her enough!

"I truly don’t have enough words to express the deep gratitude I have for Nancy. From the moment she stepped into my birth space, I felt like I was in the hands of someone sent straight from God. Her presence was calm, reassuring, and nurturing — everything I didn’t even know I needed.

She supported me emotionally, physically, and spiritually through my labour and delivery, holding space for me with so much compassion and grace. She anticipated my needs before I could even speak them, encouraged me when I felt unsure, and grounded me when things got intense. I felt so cared for, respected, and empowered the entire time.

Her hands, her words, her energy , everything she brought into my birth made me feel safe, strong, and seen. Having her by my side truly changed my birth experience in the most beautiful way. I can honestly say I would not have wanted to do it without her.

Thank you for giving me such a positive home birth experience."

"Nancy Salgueiro's doula service was absolutely essential and I wholeheartedly give her a perfect 10/10. She was an invaluable presence at both of my births, making my planned home birth experiences truly amazing. My first labour was incredibly fast and empowering, thanks in no small part to Nancy's support. For my second, though the midwife didn't arrive on time, Nancy stepped up magnificently, providing crucial assistance. She was a constant source of calm, reminding me of important things like staying hydrated and nourished, offering pain management techniques, and providing powerful and empowering words. I'll forever be grateful for her dedication and recommend her services."

"I genuinely don’t know how I would have made it through my birth without Nancy. From the moment she arrived at my home at 4 a.m., she brought with her a sense of calm, warmth, and deep care that never left. She stayed with me all day—through 19 intense hours—until 11 p.m., offering continuous support that was both physical and emotional.

When I was deep in labor at home, she was by my side—massaging my back, applying warm compresses, helping me find more comfortable positions, and creating a peaceful environment that made me feel safe and held. But what meant the most was her emotional presence. When I felt fear creeping in, when I was at my most vulnerable and doubted myself, Nancy looked me in the eyes and reminded me of my strength. She anchored me when I felt like I might give up. I’ll never forget those moments.

After 12 hours of laboring at home, we decided to transfer to the hospital—and that’s when I realized just how much of an advocate she truly is. Nancy didn’t just come with me—she came as my guide, my protector, my translator in a medical system that can sometimes feel cold or overwhelming. She helped me navigate every decision, ensured I was heard and respected, and made sure my wishes were honored wherever possible. I felt empowered, not lost—and that’s entirely because of her.

Even before birth, Nancy created such a supportive community. She held monthly birth group meetings with other moms, where we talked about all things birth—physically and emotionally. Every time I left those circles, I felt more informed, less alone, and genuinely empowered. It wasn’t just about preparing for labor—it was about preparing to step into motherhood with confidence and trust in my body.

Nancy wasn’t just my doula—she was my rock, my safe space, and a deeply grounding presence during one of the most intense and transformative days of my life. I’m already looking forward to birthing my second baby with her by my side again. I can’t imagine doing it without her.."
